The federation will hope to leverage the opportunity to develop a system capable of representing the nation at the 2028 Olympic Games
With the announcement of flag football being among the new sports at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, the Kenya Federation of American Football (KFAF) has officially become part of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya programs.
This comes after top officials from the federation including President George Alwanga and Vice-President Moses Ondeng were invited as part of the top sports leaders in NOCK’s Sports Workshop that came to a close on Wednesday.

The workshop, which saw federations reflect back on the experiences of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, also provided a slight look into preparations for Los Angeles 2028, where KFAF hope to be part and parcel of the movement.
Alwanga thanked the NOC-K Executive Committee for the invitation to the Olympics community saying: “This is a huge opportunity for us to network, build connections, and try to understand how other federations have done it before, and how they are doing it.
"With the inclusion of Flag Football in the Olympics, this is a timely milestone for KFAF. We look forward to leveraging this opportunity to develop our athletes and coaches, and proudly represent Kenya on the global stage."
KFAF will hope to be represented when 2028 comes knocking, banking on the fact that Kenya is “close” in terms of development, to leading nations like Nigeria and Egypt.
“We do have a chance of even clinching the first Olympics spot in Africa,” Alwanga said, adding that Kenya should enter into the qualifiers in 2025.
With the games still far away, there is not a clearly defined route to the Olympic Games, but qualifications have been hinted to take multiple forms including world rankings, or results from world and continental championships.
